The mission of the Harlingen WaterWorks System Information Technology Department (IT) is to provide leading edge technology, at the least possible cost, to assist WaterWorks departments in providing excellent service and value to rate payers.
A variety of systems are used to accomplish the information processing needs of the organization. Utilizing Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Exchange 2003 we are hosting email, web page and file storage needs of the entire organization. An IBM AS/400 provides the access to Utility Billing, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Inventory, Cash Receipts, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Water Taps, Sewer Taps, Work Orders and Internal Requisitions applications. A Wide Area Network (WAN) is in place which consists of six buildings communicating to computer assets, located at the main office, over DSL (Digital Subscriber Line).
The Information Technology Department is responsible for the following functions:
|1.||Maintain all operating systems at current revision and tune for peak performance.|
|2.||Perform proper and timely backup procedures for organizational data.|
|3.||Deliver programming projects that increase the level of service and decrease costs.|
|4.||Maintain proper security procedures and provide direction to departments to enhance security within user departments.|
|5.||Train all departmental personnel on proper use of application software.|
|6.||Provide a reliable connection for all organizational departments that facilitates timely information retrieval.|
|7.||Continue to make organization web page both user friendly and convenient for rate payers and the public.|
|8.||Maintain and repair computer hardware.|
|9.||Ensure integrity of data that is stored within computer systems that are used by the Harlingen WaterWorks System.|
