Outside Wastewater

Our goal is to provide our customers with the best possible service while adhering to all environmental rules set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Each person in these departments play an important part in your wastewater service. The wastewater collection and lift station consists of one 3-man crew for stoppage, line repair, pipe testing and televising. In the lift station department at HWWS there are three operators and two pump repairmen. They are responsible for collecting and pumping wastewater to our two wastewater treatment plants. We also work with other departments to help keep things working smoothly.

Wastewater Collection

We also work with other departments to help keep things working smoothly.

Lift Station Operators

The city of Harlingen currently employs five full time lift station operators. Lift stations are used to pump sewer water to the two treatment plants the city operates. The city of Harlingen has 79 lift stations. The operators are responsible for checking the lift stations for proper pump operation and up keep of the facility. They keep records of pump run times and of repairs that are performed on each station. These lift stations are an important part of the waste water system so when you see the red light on or the horn going off, please call in so that we (HWWS) can respond to the problem and get it corrected as soon as possible.

Construction/Maintenance

The Harlingen WaterWorks currently employs eight full time employees in this department. Two three-man crews which includes one equipment operator, one truck driver (18 wheeler), and one carpenter. This department works on maintaining and constructing new facilities. Also they fill in and help out other departments during heavy workloads or when short on manpower. These men work in a lot of different areas of operation such as: water plants, sewer plants, ground storage tanks, elevated storage tanks, lift stations, water lines, sewer lines, building maintenance and any other areas that need to be worked on.

Operations Service Department

The Harlingen WaterWorks currently has two full time mechanics, two full time welders and four full time electricians that support all other departments at the WaterWorks. The mechanics work on all types of vehicles and heavy equipment. The welders are used to fabricate all types of special products from pump bases to cat walks and man ways used at our water and wastewater plants. The electricians play an important role in keeping the lights on along with other electrical equipment. The services that these men perform support and allow other departments to perform their duties in a more productive manner.
