Boil Water Notice Rescinded

December 3, 2025

On 12/02/2025, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Harlingen Waterworks System public water system, TX 0310002 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of 12/03/2025

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Water Services Director Mario A. Gonzalez at (956) 564-0450.

Updated Public Service Announcement

December 3, 2025

On Monday night, HWWS Staff concluded that there was infiltration into an underground storage tank at the Downtown Water Treatment Plant.

Upon advising management  the next morning, HWWS staff immediately contacted TCEQ for concurrence of a possible “boil water” notice.

Currently, HWWS is waiting for results of water samples taken Tuesday from throughout the City. These samples have an incubation period of at least 24  hours. We will advise the public immediately after these results are complete.

We want to stress that this was a pro-active decision in coordination with TCEQ to ensure the safety of our citizens.
